Fletcher Perspectives Exhibit, Tufts University.

Working at an international education organization, I realized how much effort is spent trying to predict the future. For most people working within, the future remained a distant abstraction that they had no control over. So during my travels around the world I began to question myself — what if we think about the future in “now” terms?

In this exhibition, I looked at moments “during” moments. The imperfect memories between memories. I believe these are at the core of how we must view our own future selves — what some don’t care to remember, but we are bound to reminisce forever.

For most of the children in this exhibit, it is easier never to think about the future. Ironically, they will be the main actors shaping it. For most us, the future is what we are taught to breathe for. Just as these children, I too wanted to challenge the notion of living today for the sake of tomorrow.

Perhaps now more than in recent years, we need to empower our youth. Our increasingly complex and intertwined world is demanding that the future becomes a part of the “now” and that we all take a role in shaping our future. These portraits reflect my interpretation of people who are not afraid of shaping tomorrow, without disregarding the “now”.
